Pastors and Perros at Talitha Kum

Today was Saturday, our day off, or so we thought. We all mosied out of bed this morning ready for a day of relaxation and a nice break. Outside Lorna and Ofelia's window there is a school, and today there was a celebration going on.

Shortly after breakfast Ofelia told us that the Talitha Kum service was tonight at 5:00, not tomorrow morning. This got us up and moving. We had a lot of rehearsing to do on our instruments before we were ready for a service. We rehearsed until shortly after noon when we decided it was too nice of a day to stay inside.

We left the hotel and went to the main plaza. It was sunny and beautiful. Lorna even took a nap to soak up some sun.

Wasting away the afternoon in the sun, we decided it was time to grab lunch (and Pastor Dale) before we had to leave for church. Ofelia led us to one of her favorite restaurants that she used to eat at when she lived in Cusco and it was amazing! The Bohemian owner was very nice and made great conversation. The food was exceptional too. After lunch we went back to the hotel and grabbed our instruments, and then it was time to go to church.

We caught a couple taxis and had a hectic ride across town and up the hills to Talitha Kum. We got there around 5:00, but this wasn't our first Peruvian church service. We knew that it wouldn't actually start until 6:30. It gave us another chance to rehearse with our instruments before we had to perform.

Talitha Kum had come such a long way since we were here four years ago. It had windows, electricity, and was completely finished. It was amazing. It shines like a beacon in the beat-up neighborhood.

Finally, people started showing up for the service. Ofelia preached and Dale assisted in the service. In total there were 16 kids, 6 women, the 6 of us, and three dogs in attendance.

Of course, Annie and I were roped into teaching the kids some action songs during the service.

After the service ended, the children gathered around our instruments and we let them play the bells and the keyboard.

One of the kids that Lorna taught six years ago still remembered the song that they learned and wanted to play it for Lorna on the piano.

Although a small congregation, the kids were very sweet and fun to be around.

It came time for us to leave, and this time we caught the bus back to our hotel. Annie and I had time for a bus selfie.

We returned and ate dinner near the main plaza and of course, it was fantastic.

Also, because I was too lazy to take pictures today, photo creds to Annie, Deb, and Lorna for today's blog.

Definitely sleeping in tomorrow,

Ben Beyond the Bubble.
